Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the drink calculator?
The calculator uses standard consumption rates based on event industry data and adjusts for drinking preference, occasion type, and duration. Actual consumption varies by crowd, weather, and other factors — we recommend rounding up 10–15% to be safe.
What counts as one drink?
One drink = 12 oz beer, 5 oz wine, 1.5 oz liquor (shot or cocktail). The calculator estimates total servings needed, not individual consumption limits. Always provide plenty of non-alcoholic options and water.
How do I convert wine glasses to bottles?
A standard 750 ml wine bottle pours about 5 glasses. Divide the total wine glass count by 5 to get the number of bottles needed. The shopping list below does this automatically.
Should I include hard liquor for a cocktail party?
Yes — the Cocktail Party preset shifts the ratio heavily toward cocktails and includes a liquor shot estimate. For a standard 750 ml bottle of spirits (vodka, whiskey, gin), you'll get roughly 17 shots or 12–15 cocktails.
What if my guests have mixed drinking habits?
Use the Moderate preference as a baseline for mixed crowds. For groups with very different drinking habits, we recommend calculating twice (once for light drinkers, once for heavy) and averaging the results.
